The best Splitwise alternatives in 2026, compared with sources
If Splitwise's daily expense limit or ads are the problem, the strongest free alternatives are Tricount, Splid, Spliit and Kittysplit. Tricount says it's "Free. No ads. No limits." and includes currency conversion. Splid needs no sign-up and converts over 150 currencies. Spliit is open source with no account. Kittysplit runs in the browser with no registration. SuperSplit, which we make, has no daily limit and no ads, but keeps currency conversion and receipt scanning in its paid Pro tier. Every claim links to the app's own page, checked on 14 Oct 2026.

Which alternative fits your group?
- An international trip, and you want free conversion: Tricount or Splid. Both include currency conversion at no cost, and both mention offline use: Tricount lists offline as "Available", and Splid lets you create offline groups.
- Nobody wants another account: Splid, Spliit or Kittysplit. Tricount also lets you try it without signing up.
- You want open source: Spliit is built in the open and funded by donations.
- You want unlimited, ad-free splitting in native iPhone and Android apps: SuperSplit, as long as you're fine paying for conversion and receipt scanning, or don't need them.
- Your group already uses Splitwise and rarely logs more than a few expenses a day: staying put is reasonable. Moving a whole group has its own cost.
What does each app do best?
Tricount
Tricount's site says it's "Free. No ads. No limits.", includes currency conversion, lists offline use as available and says you can "try tricount without signing up." It claims "more than 20 million people" use it. The site also promotes a bunq card alongside the app. How it compares with Splitwise.
Splid
"Splid is free!", with "no sign-up required". You can create an offline group for quick settling or turn on sync to enter expenses together. It converts over 150 currencies automatically and exports summaries as PDF or Excel. Apps for iPhone and Android.
Spliit
"Open Source. Forever Free." and "No ads. No account. No limitation." Spliit runs on the web and has an iPhone app. You can attach receipt images, and an AI receipt scan is in beta. Hosting is paid for by donations.
Kittysplit
"No registration, no password, totally free." You send people a link to the kitty, and it works "on every device with a decent browser - even without installing the app." There are iPhone and Android apps too.
SuperSplit (ours)
Groups, expenses and history are free and unlimited, with no ads. You can split equally, by exact amounts, by shares or by percentage. People can be added by name before they join, and balances can be shared to a group chat as an image or text. Settle-up suggests at most one payment fewer than the number of people with a balance (how that works). The iPhone app is available in 20 languages.
The trade-offs: currency conversion and receipt scanning are in paid Pro, and anyone who wants to see the group in the app or on the web has to sign in. Our App Store listing doesn't have enough ratings to show a score yet.
Splitwise
Splitwise has 4.0 stars from 29K ratings on the US App Store (checked 14 Oct 2026). Pro covers unlimited daily expenses, currency conversion, receipt scanning with itemization, charts, search and an ad-free app. If the daily limit rarely affects your group, switching may not be worth it. What should you check before switching?
- The free plan's limits and ads, on the app's own pricing or store page.
- Who needs an account: everyone, or only the person keeping the record?
- Whether currency conversion is free or paid, if you travel.
- How you get your data out: Splid exports PDF or Excel, Splitwise Pro offers JSON backups, and SuperSplit Pro exports PDF or CSV on iPhone and CSV on Android.
- How settle-up works: a short list of payments beats a long list of pairwise debts. Here's the math.
How did we check?
On 14 Oct 2026 we read each app's own homepage, pricing page or US App Store listing, and quoted it. We left out apps whose current terms we couldn't confirm from their own pages, including Settle Up, Splitser, SplitterUp and TravelSpend, which appeared in an earlier version of this article. We make SuperSplit and describe it by the same rule: only what the app does today.
