Is Splitwise free? What the free plan includes in 2026
Yes. Splitwise is free to download and use, but the free plan limits how many expenses you can add each day and shows ads. Splitwise sells "No limits and no ads" as part of Splitwise Pro, together with currency conversion, receipt scanning and itemization. Splitwise doesn't publish the daily number; reports put it at three to five expenses a day. Every claim below links to its source, checked on 14 Oct 2026.

What do you get on Splitwise's free plan?
Splitwise's App Store listing says that if you don't buy Pro, "you can continue using Splitwise for free." Its Pro page lists what's reserved for subscribers. Side by side:

How many expenses can you add per day on the free plan?
Splitwise doesn't say. Its Pro page promises unlimited daily expenses but never states the free limit, and published reports differ.

We haven't run our own count, so treat these as reports rather than a confirmed figure. Because the limit resets daily, it matters most on trips and moving days, when a group logs many small costs at once.
How much does Splitwise Pro cost?
Splitwise's Pro page doesn't show a price. On the US App Store, Splitwise lists ten in-app purchases, all named "Splitwise Pro", priced from $2.99 to $39.99. The listing doesn't say which price belongs to which billing period (checked 14 Oct 2026). Finny's August 2026 write-up reports that US users "typically see Pro at around $4.99 per month or $39.99 per year." Prices vary by country and offer, so check the purchase screen in the app before you pay.
Is the free plan enough for your group?
It depends on how many expenses you add on your busiest day, not in a month.
- A household that logs a few shared costs a week is unlikely to notice a daily limit.
- A trip is different. Four friends on a city break can easily log breakfast, coffees, lunch, museum tickets, dinner and a taxi on the same day: six expenses, above every reported limit.
- A workaround is to batch small costs into one expense per day, at the price of a less useful record.
If batching doesn't suit you, the options are to pay for Pro or use an app without a daily cap.

Does SuperSplit have a daily limit?
No. On SuperSplit's free plan, groups, expenses and history are unlimited, and the app doesn't show ads. You can split equally, by exact amounts, by shares or by percentage, and SuperSplit suggests the payments that settle the group. SuperSplit Pro is optional: receipt scanning, expenses in any of 148 currencies with automatic conversion, repeating bills, reminders, spending insights and export. The US App Store lists SuperSplit's in-app purchases at $2.99 to $34.99 (checked 14 Oct 2026); the app shows the exact plans before you buy.
If you want currency conversion without paying for anything, Tricount and Splid include it free. Ours doesn't.
